Partnering for more efficient infrastructure
For many years now, Green Cargo and Vossloh Nordic Switch Systems have worked on the transportation of material for switches and complete railway switches.
“We aim to increase our internal transportation by rail to 20 percent in 2017 and then gradually increase year by year,” says Janne Nilsson, Transport Manager at Vossloh Nordic Switch Systems.
Green Cargo has transported railway material for Vossloh for many years. Concrete sleepers are transported between Vislanda and Örebro and used in the final installation of the complete switches. Railway switches are transported from Vossloh’s production facility in Ystad to the production facility in Örebro for final assembly. Thereafter, the railway switches are lifted into place with a rail-bound crane at construction sites across Sweden and Norway.
“The railway is reliable and cost efficient, but most importantly, the railway meets the more stringent environmental requirements for transportation. We want rail transportation to remain the most competitive and best environmental transportation system and look forward to a substantial increase in the expansion of the railways over the next few decades,” informs Janne Nilsson.
“Green Cargo has the country’s largest network for wagon loads and intermodal freight. This creates a high degree of flexibility and considerable capacity for our customers,” says Johan Lorensson, Key Account Manager at Green Cargo.
Requirements are consistently being raised in terms of a more advanced and efficient rail infrastructure — higher speeds and less noise. Previously, railway switches had a standard length of 16 meters. However, faster trains require longer switches and the current standard is now 24 meters.
“To be able to deliver the longer railway switch components, we have developed 25-meter wagons for Vossloh. The wagons are purpose-built from a materials handling, loading and cost perspective. Due to this unique solution, the prerequisites are in place to be able to more than double current levels of transport between Vossloh’s production facilities in Ystad and Örebro,” concludes Johan Lorensson.
Vossloh is one of the world’s leading companies in railway switches and rail technology. The company offers comprehensive competence and resources embracing everything related to modern rail technology, from prefabricated railway switches and tailor-made rail-based systems to an extensive range of track components and maintenance programs.
