Green Cargo’s Chairman joins Government’s freight transport advisory council
The Government has resolved to create a national freight transport advisory council, tasked with contributing to efforts to promote efficient, high capacity and sustainable freight transportation, and with implementing the freight transport strategy. Green Cargo’s Chairman Jan Sundling has been asked to join the council.
“I hope the freight transport advisory council will help to strengthen collaboration between different modes of transport, to create efficient and competitive transportation to, from, and within Sweden. For us at Green Cargo, it is important that the environmental and climate-smart alternatives are favored. I will stress the need for political decisions that strengthen the competitiveness of rail or at least create competitive neutrality between the different modes of transport. Rail transportation is by far the most effective method to reduce CO2 emissions from transportation. And potential exists to considerably increase the quantity of freight carried by rail,” says Jan Sundling.
The national freight strategy aims to create conditions for efficient, high capacity and sustainable freight transportation and has been drawn up in dialogue with relevant stakeholders. It provides a concise overview of the current situation and clarifies the overall direction for the freight and logistics area.
“If Sweden is to remain competitive and meet the climate challenge, the transport sector must develop and all stakeholders must act together to find solutions. With the freight strategy as a starting point, the national advisory council will be an important tool for implementation,” says the Minister for Infrastructure Tomas Eneroth in a press release.
