Four satisfied business partners are once again renewing their agreement to continue the sustainable freight transportation of wood chips and pulpwood from Norway to Sweden. The new three-year agreement between BillerudKorsnäs, Moelven, Grenland Rail and Green Cargo starts this December.
Despite the prevailing situation with COVID-19 and reduced demand in many segments, Holmen’s round timber customers need to transport raw materials, with a resulting increase in Holmen’s need for more freight transportation. Green Cargo has been able to meet Holmen’s requirements for extra trains thanks to its customer adaptability and solution-oriented approach.
Holmen has taken a new step in its sustainable strategy work. Holmen’s largest forest holdings are located in northern Sweden, while much of its industrial production takes place in the south. To secure its wood supply and add value to its own forest, Holmen is now going to be transporting its wood south on trains from Green Cargo.
The greatest reduction in the climate impact of transportation stems from moving cargo to rail. In a collaboration agreement, Domsjö Fiber and Green Cargo have moved over 5,000 tonnes of pulpwood a week from road to rail freight for safer, more efficient and greener transportation. The first rail consignment, loaded with lnps-model timber wagons, ran in mid-February.
In December, new three-year agreements enter force between Green Cargo, Grenland Rail, Moelven and BillerudKorsnäs for sustainable deliveries of woodchips and pulpwood from Norway to Sweden.
