​Mellanskog switches to climate-smart transportation with Green Cargo

The most efficient way to reduce climate impact from transportation is to transfer freight from the road network to the railways. In October, Mellanskog and Green Cargo entered a new partnership agreement under which woodchips will now be transported by rail instead of by road. This will result in safe, more efficient and more environmentally friendly shipments.

Volvo Cars’ sustainability day in Gothenburg on Thursday concluded with awarding the international Volvo Cars Quality of Excellence prize. Several hundred participants from all over the world were there, including Marcus Wiklund and Clas Svensson from Green Cargo. Along with the other nominated suppliers, Green Cargo had the honor of accepting the Volvo Cars prize.

​Domsjö Fiber chooses rail transportation through new agreement with Green Cargo

The greatest reduction in the climate impact of transportation stems from moving cargo to rail. In a collaboration agreement, Domsjö Fiber and Green Cargo have moved over 5,000 tonnes of pulpwood a week from road to rail freight for safer, more efficient and greener transportation. The first rail consignment, loaded with lnps-model timber wagons, ran in mid-February.

There is considerable market demand for international rail shuttle services. Green Cargo and the Belgium firm, Lineas, have increased the number of train departures on the popular direct route, Belgium Direct, between Sweden and Belgium for existing and new customers. On January 12, the fourth shuttle started between the countries and volumes on the trains is increasing.
