Green Cargo’s logistics solution for E.ON secures delivery of propane gas to SSAB

E.ON and Green Cargo have signed a long-term agreement comprising two single-commodity trains a week. These will deliver propane gas and run between Karlshamn and SSAB’s production facility in Borlänge.

“Last spring, SSAB chose a new supplier of propane gas for their production facility in Borlänge. Their new supplier, E.ON, contacted us to ask if Green Cargo could provide them with freight transportation between Karlshamn and Borlänge. We have had a long and productive partnership since 1989 and, of course, we organized a favorable logistics solution for E.ON between these locations,” says Lennart Andersson, salesperson at Green Cargo.

Propane gas is a key component in the manufacture of steel, which places stringent requirements on delivery and capacity. SSAB must always have propane gas available, so that production does not suffer.

“It was a logistical challenge to meet the customer’s requirements, where delivery reliability and transportation capacity are two essential elements. However, due toour solid expertise in the transportation of hazardous materials, combined with Green Cargo’s network and specialized freight transport, we can deliver in line with the customer’s requirements,” Lennart Andersson continues.

E.ON and Green Cargo have signed a long-term agreement comprising two single-commodity trains a week throughout the year with direct trains between Karlshamn and Borlänge. On March 6, the first delivery was made from Karlshamn to SSAB’s Domnarvet plant in Borlänge.

“This is the largest propane delivery we have ever made. It means that our business approach is correct and that customers appreciate our logistics solutions with the large storage facilities in Karlshamn, and the close collaboration with the customer and Green Cargo,” says Christopher Thelin, Logistic Manager and Chief Engineer at E.ON Gas Sweden.
