Starting in 2024, Green Cargo will purchase guarantees of origin for fossil-free electricity production (wind, hydro- and nuclear power) instead of guarantees of origin for renewable electricity production (wind and hydropower) from the Swedish Transport Administration. This is a result of the dramatic price increase for guarantees of origin for renewable electricity noted during the end of 2022.

Green Cargo will deploy the first two next-generation freight locomotives in Norway. The new Eurodual locomotives are more robust, better adapted to the harsh Norwegian landscape and will reduce delays across the railway network. The new locomotive means that a freight train can transport the equivalent of 30 trucks. Norway is the first country in the Nordics to use this new locomotive.
The direct line, with three trains a week in each direction, is not only the fastest transportation alternative, it is also a more reliable and climate-smart alternative. Not only does it reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 63% compared with road freight over the same distance, it also decreases road congestion.
The Swedish Transport Administration is building the West Link to create a railway for commuter and regional trains in a tunnel under central Gothenburg. Green Cargo is transporting around 8,600 tonnes of sheet piling to the tunnel site, removing almost 370 truckloads from roads to and within central Gothenburg.
In mid-November, Green Cargo began installing a new type of brake disc that will be tested on mail wagons over the winter. If the project is successful, more wagons will have their brake discs replaced.
From 2016, Green Cargo and Real Rail Sweden AB have worked in partnership with the transportation of perishable goods and industrial freight on three different routes, between southern and northern Sweden. “We are continuing our partnership with Green Cargo who maintain high quality standards and have structured quality efforts in place,” says Hans Backman, CEO of Real Rail Sweden AB.
For many years now, Green Cargo and Vossloh Nordic Switch Systems have worked on the transportation of material for switches and complete railway switches. “We aim to increase our internal transportation by rail to 20 percent in 2017 and then gradually increase year by year,” says Janne Nilsson, Transport Manager at Vossloh Nordic Switch Systems.

The union SEKO has announced that conflict measures will take effect at 2 pm on Friday 12 May. Due to the scale of the conflict measures we have had to adjust our traffic. We are actively working to ensure that as many trains as possible run and to keep the number of traffic changes to a minimum.
Eight Green Cargo wagons run from Billingsfors to Varberg and Falkenberg each week with roundwood on behalf of Ahlstrom-Munksjö in Billingsfors. The timber’s final destination is the Maa Sawmill near Ullared.
